Being a Mom to an LEO is the most proudest accomplishment I have ever done in my life. I say it proudly my son is a POLICE MAN!My son is my EVERYTHING, He is what I wake up to in the morning, he is what I think about going to bed at all hours of the night wondering if he is okay and what will tomorrow will bring for him after speaking to him that he is home safe.Growing up I always wanted to be a LEO and my dream never came true. No college education I had him at the age of 21 being a single parent at the time, I couldn’t risk taking on this roll called a PEACE OFFICER and my son going without a mother if something happened to me. I chose a different path in life to support my son and provide whatever he needed to go onto College to follow my dream. He came to me and said I want to be a Dentist senior year in HS, I said Niko please follow my dreams go on one ride along and tell me how you feel when you return from home. He signed up for the Joliet Police ride along. That night he came home and said Mom I want to be a Police Officer. I did everything in my power to send him to College to earn a degree in Criminal Justice. I got him there. The first family member to do to College.2013 was the BEST accomplishment I did in the history of my Family a family member graduated from College and it was my son. My Hero, My Everything. Soon after that he got onto the force, married his HS sweet heart, bought a house, two dogs and is now expecting a baby girl in March. I taught my son to respect, love and treat people the way you want to be treated. LOVE ALL. When you look up the word Police Officer my sons picture should appear. He is and what 99.9 percent of the LEO are in this world. Angels from heaven. They wake up leaving their familes wondering if this will be the last time they see them. He does all the Toy Runs at the holidays, Special Olympics, stops and plays ball with all the kids in his town. My son is and will change the world on how people think all Police Officers are bad. Well they are NOT. Missed holidays, missed parties, Missed Sunday dinners in our house as we used to have when he was a child, to be on the streets protecting other families safety first, rips my heart apart but this is what I wanted my son to do. Be a HERO and make a Difference. When all this started to happen, I called him and said please change your job. We will move and help you and your wife for you to have a safer job. He replied in a stern voice I will not give up. I will and I am going to make a difference for me and my Blue family I got this MOM! Every night we made a pack. I will text you at 6pm. he goes back to the precinct IF he get dinner and has to eat at the station all the hate he will respond back I Love you. This is the half way point through his shift. I will order food from a local restaurant that supports the BLUE and have it sent to all of his staff so they can have a decent meal from time to time. Letting them know this POLICE MOM appreciate ALL that you do. Then at 11pm when his shift if over he will text me I am on the way home I love you. Then I can sleep to get up and do it all over again until his days off. This is what a Mother of a LEO has to deal with in her life. I look forward to his days off where I don’t have to listen to the news or social media to make sure my kid is away and safe from all the hate. All this must end and it starts with RESPECT AND OBEY taught at an early age and LOVE ALL. POLICE ARE ANGELS FROM GOD PROTECTING US FROM EVIL.
